Robert Williamson moved to Polk County (Saluda) in 1986, to a 20-acre horse farm in Mill Spring in 1991, and then to Columbus in 2003. He has worked as a self-employed entrepreneur since 1991, offering education, training and productivity-improvement consultation to businesses around the world. Robert has written over 800 magazine articles, has been a featured speaker at more than 300 conferences, and has authored three technical books (working on a fourth). Robert and his wife Deb are members of Midway Baptist Church. In 2004, they built Scoops ‘n More Ice Cream, and operated the business for five years. His participation in the Handmade in America study of Columbus and serving on the Discover Columbus Committee has given him keen insights to the needs and interests of the community and the amazing assets we have in our town. Additional community activities have included Carolina Foothills Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors (2003-2005), Columbus Merchants Association (2004-2008), Polk County Economic Development Director (2014-2016), and House of Flags Museum (since 2007): activities included fundraising for downtown building location, Chairman of the new non-profit Board, and Curator of the Eisenhower Oval Office Flag Exhibit. Before relocating to Polk County Robert worked for a global engineering/construction company in South Carolina (1980-1991), served as a community college technical division director and instructor (1970-1980), with undergraduate and graduate studies in Tooling Design, Trade-Technical Teacher Education and Administration. He maintains credentials as a Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional and Certified Industrial Professional Maintenance Manager. Considering the many opportunities we have to grow and prosper, Robert is committed to helping shape our future as a member of the Columbus Town Council, while at the same time, preserving what we value about living in one of the most beautiful and friendly areas in Western, North Carolina.
