Performer bios:
The Folsom Prison Gang:
The Folsom Prison Gang is a five piece Johnny Cash tribute band out of
Western North Carolina. A love of Johnny Cash music, along with the
desire to do something totally different, led to the formation of The
Folsom Prison Gang in early 2007. Since then the band has been
performing at festivals and theaters bringing that famous
boom-chucka-boom sound to audiences from South Carolina to Maryland.
Selecting from a catalog that exceeds 1,400 songs (yes...Johnny Cash
recorded that many songs during his 50+ years writing and recording)
and numerous chart topping hits; The Folsom Prison Gang performs song
after song of recognizable favorites and crowd pleasers.
Wink Keziah and Delux Motel:
A listen to Wink Keziah & Delux Motel on their red-hot album
Working Songs For The Drinking Class or at their scorching live shows
quickly evokes the old saying: That’s what I like about the South. Born
and bred in North Carolina, Keziah is a genuine urban hillbilly who
makes music at the same fulcrum where country meets rock’n’roll that
Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins first
developed when they entered Sun Studios in the mid-1950s. Call it
outlaw country, high-test honky-tonk, hillbilly rock or whatever you
like. Wink’s newest CD titled Hard Times should be released this July.
Jef Chandler & Friends:
Jef Chandler is a singer/songwriter from Greenville, SC who has been
performing in the southeast for two decades. An eclectic writer,
Chandler composes music that is a blend of roots rock, country,
bluegrass, and the blues. In the fall of 2004, Chandler released his
second solo CD Everything Good is on the Highway, from which the song
Empire of Idle Thoughts charted in the top 100 on the indie Country
charts in Europe in March of 2005. Account, the new Jef Chandler album
released in January 2009, features a number of great players from the
state of South Carolina, including Charles Hedgepath, Mike Bagwell,
Chris Garrett and Kevin Heuer.
The Work:
The Work is a horn-driven funky band from Greenville, S.C. that plays
an eclectic marriage of jazz, rock, blues, funk, all served in a high
energy environment - fun for all! Their CD titled Bring Back The Good
is a testament to the uncanny ability of the band to seamlessly meld
various styles of music that range from bluegrass to R&B to blues
to funk and beyond.
Silver Travis:
The Silver Travis band was originally formed in Spartanburg, SC in 1981
playing their originals songs and covers by The Marshall Tucker Band
and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band broke up in the mid 80's, but in 2005
reunited to record their first album One Monkey Don't Spoil the Show.
In 2009 the band released their second album Take The High Road. Silver
Travis is a little bit country and a whole lot Southern Rock, with some
good ol’ blues tossed in for good measure. It’s a mix that has a firm
foundation in its Southern roots. Silver Travis offers an eclectic
catalogue of original music combined with a choice selection of cover
tunes to compliment the talents of the various members of the band.
Darin and Brooke Aldridge:
Darin and Brooke Aldridge’s music is rising toward the top in their
field. Bluegrass Unlimited has said they have set a new standard of
excellence in bluegrass gospel. The Gospel Roots chart has chosen their
CD I’ll Go With You #1 already this year. Darin and Brooke produce
powerful vocals and perfect instrumentation along with professionalism
and message to deliver a most memorable acoustic music experience.
Darin Aldridge is a native of Cherryville, NC. After high school, Darin
toured the U.S. and Canada with The Country Gentleman for seven years,
earning him four nominations for bluegrass mandolin player of the year
in Nashville. For the last 3 years, Darin has been on tour with The
Circuit Riders. In 2006, Darin joined up with extraordinary vocalist
Brooke Justice to perform several festivals and fairs and is currently
signed to Pinecastle Records. Brooke Justice is a 24 year old young
lady who began singing at the age of 5. As a child, Brooke's parents
always encouraged her to sing in competitions in hopes that someone
would eventually discover her talent. In 2004 she competed in the
regionals of the Nashville Star competition in Columbus, GA, where she
finished third in a talented group of more than one hundred hopefuls.
†In 2007, Brooke recorded her first CD and landed a record contract
with Pinecastle Records. She has been awing audiences, from church
houses to Merle Fest, with her amazing voice.
The Special Consensus:
After 30 years, The Special Consensus continues its quest to turn
listeners into true bluegrass lovers.† They perform at the most
traditional bluegrass festivals and also bridge the gap between
traditional and progressive bands at more diverse festivals and fairs.
This great band has been the breeding ground for some of the best young
stars in bluegrass today and has always been able to reach an eclectic
group of people by extensive touring, teaching bluegrass in the
schools, appearing on television and radio programs, and playing with
symphony orchestras.
The original lineup, based in Chicago, began performing throughout the
Midwest in the spring of 1975 and released their first album in 1979
when they began touring on a national basis. The band has appeared on
The Nashville Network "Fire On The Mountain" show.†Bandleader, Greg
Cahill is one of the busiest men in music today.† Besides heading up a
band that tours more than most, he is the President and Chairman of the
Board of the International Bluegrass Music Association.†In 2000,
Pinecastle Records released the band's first performance video, filmed
for Iowa Public Television's "Old Time Country Music" show, and The
Special Consensus 25th Anniversary recording to mark this milestone
year for the band. Their album Route 10 was included in the Top 10
Recordings of 2003 in both Bluegrass Now and the Chicago Tribune.†
Special Consensus’ last album, The Trail Of Aching Hearts, garnered the
most acclaim for the group.† It was on the Bluegrass Unlimited chart
for 12 months and received rave reviews from every major bluegrass
publication.† The group's new project, Signs, was released on March 24,
2009.†
…Special Consensus is a superb bluegrass outfit in a classic vein but
with more than enough modern sensibilities to attract every ear in this
now pleasantly fractionating genre. The vocals are spotless, the
playing as shiny as a newly minted penny, and music like this is the
reason people come to love bluegrass… Special Consensus approaches this
hallowed American musical form with boundless energy and an aesthetic
reverence that tickles the ribs, tugs at the heart, and puts a restless
two-step in boots and bare feet. The lead cut on their new CD, Signs,
is emblematic of the entire CD, bursting with high spirits, energy
refusing to sit still, precision so tight you can set your watch by it,
and pure musicality so infectious that there lives nary a soul that
will be able to turn its born and bred ears from tilting leeward to get
a better listen...
