Polk County Historical Museum Opens in Columbus PDF Print E-mail

The Polk County Historical Museum reopened in its new Columbus site on March 3, 2009.

The new museum, located at 60 Walker Street in the lower level of the Feagan Building, has three times the space of its previous location in the Tryon Depot. Items which have been in storage, including a coach from the 1800s, which has not been displayed for 30 years, can now be exhibited in the new space.

Polk County has a colorful history, and visitors of all ages will find many interesting and educational exhibits. The new museum features a station master's office, military section; antique farm tools and implements, a school display, a home setting, medical display, beauty parlor, and many historical photographs.

The museum will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 1 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm. Entrance is at the rear of the building.
