Administration

The Town of Columbus operates under the council-manager form of government.  In 2004 the Town switched from a council-administrator form of government to a town manager form of government. The Town Council saw a need for more formal administration to handle and deal with the growth and change the Town is facing. The Town Manager conducts the overall administration of the Town as allowed by the North Carolina General Statutes and coordinates all activities of the Town and all policies and actions of the Town Council.

The Town employees provide services of police, water, sewer, and street maintenance. The administrative staff consists of the Town Manager, Town Clerk, Assistant Finance Director, and Customer Service Representative.
 
The Town provides water and sewer service and offers solid waste services, which are contracted to Waste Industries. All utility bills are collected at Town Hall.
